Hi All, I created this forum in the hope it would attract leisure boat owners like myself who want to share their experiences, joys and sorrows with their Volvo Penta engines. My current boat is a Jeanneau Leader 805 with a D4-260 engine. I previously had a Larson Cabrio with a D4-210. While my experience generally with the Volvo Penta engines has been positive I have also had some bad experiences. I have learned a lot from my few negative experiences and I now realise I could have saved myself a lot of money and heart ache if I had been able to talk to other VP owners about these problems at the time. For instance how many VP owners have experienced leaking steering cylinders on their D4 and been told that it is not a Volvo fault but rather particular to the water where you happen to have your boat berthed. The truth is the original cylinder design is faulty and if you take the advice of the VP authorised service agent you will discard the leaking cylinders and replace them with new ones at around €1,000 each when you could easily have them repaired in a good hydraulic shop for less than €50. Please share your experiences here. Are you doing DIY servicing? Any tips to share? What tools are needed? Where do you buy your Filters etc? do we need to use original VP parts or are there good alternatives? Attachments:
